Aspargin® is a medicine, which has been used for supplementation and treatment of magnesium and potassium deficiencies in the body for 50 years. It ensures maintenance of potassium and magnesium at appropriate levels and guarantees optimal utilization of the supplied elements. It contains well absorbable by the human body magnesium and potassium salts of aspartic acid, which is an important building component of the body. It has a very high assimilability of magnesium salt (40%) and potassium salt (100%) of aspartic acid. Unlike dietary supplements, Aspargin® effectively treats elemental deficiencies in the body.

Composition:

Theactive substances are magnesium hydrogenaspartate(Magnesii hydroaspartas) and potassiumhydrogenaspartate (Kalii hydroaspartas).

1 tablet contains:
250 mg magnesium hydrogenaspartate - 17 mg magnesium ions250 mg potassium
hydrogenaspartate - 54mg potassium

Action:

The drug provides ions of magnesium and potassium, thus supplementing deficiencies of these elements in the body.

Magnesium is an activator of many enzymes, mediates the production and transport of energy in the body. It is necessary for the function of cardiac muscle, nervous system, vascular smooth muscle and striated muscles

Potassium participates in the function of the nervous and cardiovascular systems and in neuromuscular conduction

Indications:

Aspargin is used to supplement magnesium and potassium deficiencies:

- in heart disorders caused by magnesium and potassium deficiency,

- preventively in ischemic heart disease and at risk of myocardial infarction,

- Supportively in patients after myocardial infarction (during the period of recovery),

- after history of infectious diseases or surgical procedures, which caused decrease of magnesium and potassium concentration,

- With long-term use of cardiac glycosides and diuretics (e.g., thiazides, furosemide).

Contraindications:

When not to use Aspargin:

- hypersensitivity to active substances or any of the other components of the drug,

- excess of magnesium or potassium in blood,

- severe renal insufficiency,

- infection of urinary tract,

- heart disturbances (feeling of too slow, fast or irregular heartbeat),

- significant hypotension of the blood.

Adverse reactions:

Like all medicines, this medicine may cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

Use of other drugs:

Tell your doctor or pharmacist about all medicines you are currently or recently taking and any medicines you plan to take.

Aspargin should not be used together with:

- antibiotics from the tetracycline group, as magnesium salts reduce the absorption of these antibiotics,

- oral anticoagulants of coumarin derivatives,

- fluoroquinolones,

- drugs and dietary supplements containing phosphates, calcium, and iron, since magnesium decreases their absorption,

- Digitalis glycosides (cardiac drugs) used in combination with potassium may lead to heart rhythm disturbances,

- diuretics (amiloride, spironolactone, triamterene) and angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors (drugs used in cardiovascular diseases, e.g. captopril and enalapril) increase potassium levels in the blood.

Use of the drug with food and drink:

The drug should be taken after a meal, with a drink of water. Magnesium absorption decreases in the presence of phosphates, calcium, lipids and phytates in the diet.

Pregnancy and Breastfeeding:

If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or if you suspect that you are pregnant, or if you are planning a pregnancy, consult your doctor before taking any medicine.

Use of the drug in children and adolescents:
