Description:

Preparation for use in the treatment of acute and recurrent uncomplicated lower urinary tract infections.

Composition:

The active substance of the drug is furagin. 1 tablet contains 50 mg of furagin.

Other ingredients of the drug are: lactose monohydrate, potato starch, sucrose, polysorbate 80, stearic acid.

Dosage:

Always take this medicine exactly as described in the patient information leaflet or as directed by your doctor. If in doubt, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

Adults and adolescents over 15 years of age

▪️ First day of treatment: 2 tablets 4 times daily

▪️ subsequent days: 2 tablets 3 times daily.

Furaginum US Pharmacia should be taken orally with meals containing protein, which increases the absorption of the drug.

The drug is used for 7-8 days. If, after this time, the symptoms worsen or do not disappear, consult a doctor.

If necessary, the treatment can be repeated after 10-15 days.

Action:

The drug Furaginum US Pharmacia contains furagin as the active substance. Furagin is a nitrofuran derivative that inhibits the growth of bacteria, both Gram-positive and Gram-negative, that cause urinary tract infections.

Indications:

The indication for the drug is the treatment of acute and recurrent uncomplicated lower urinary tract infections.

Contraindications:

Do not use the drug Furaginum US Pharmacia:

▪️ If the patient is allergic (hypersensitive) to furagin, other nitrofuran derivatives, or any of the excipients.

▪️ If the patient has renal insufficiency and laboratory tests show a creatinine clearance of less than 60 mL/min or an elevated serum creatinine level.

▪️ If the patient has been diagnosed with polyneuropathy (a disorder of the nervous system), such as in diabetes.

▪️ If the patient has glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency (an enzyme involved in the metabolism of red blood cells).

Side effects:

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everyone will get them.

Adverse reactionscommon (affects 1 to 10 users in 100): nausea, excessive gasping; headache.

Adverse reactions occurring no more often than in 1 in 100 patients: cyanosis, megaloblastic anemia (anemia from vitamin B12 or folic acid deficiency) or hemolytic anemia (caused by excessive breakdown of red blood cells); dizziness, somnolence, visual disturbances, peripheral nervous disorders (also acute or irreversible, especially in patients with renal failure, anemia, diabetes, electrolyte disturbances, vitamin B deficiency); hypersensitivity reactions affecting the respiratory system; constipation, diarrhea, dyspeptic symptoms (e.g. the following are some examples of adverse reactions: hypersensitivity reactions in the respiratory system; constipation, diarrhea, dyspeptic symptoms (e.g., fullness after meals, flatulence), abdominal pain, vomiting, salivary gland inflammation, pancreatitis, pseudobronchitis; alopecia, severe skin reactions with scaling or blistering (dermatitis, erythema multiforme, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, or bullous erythema multiforme); fever, chills, malaise, infections with furagin-resistant organisms; pruritus, urticaria, anaphylactic reactions (sudden local or systemic allergic reactions), angioedema (a disease of the skin and subcutaneous tissue involving the formation of swellings that may impede breathing, most commonly in the face, throat, tongue) rash; symptoms of drug-induced hepatitis, cholestatic jaundice (caused by an obstruction to bile outflow), hepatic parenchymal necrosis.

Warnings and Precautions:

Each tablet contains 18.8 mg lactose monohydrate and 10 mg sucrose.

If you have been previously diagnosed with intolerance to certain sugars, you should contact your doctor before taking this medication.

▪️ Do not store at temperatures above 25°C.

Tell your doctor about all medicines you are currently or recently taking or medicines you plan to take.

Use of the medicine with food and drink:

Furaginum US Pharmacia should be taken orally with meals containing protein, which increases the absorption of the drug.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding:

During pregnancy and breastfeeding, check with your doctor before use.

Effects on Laboratory Tests:

During furagine use, results of urine glucose determinations using Benedict's and Fehling's solutions may be false positives. Results of urine glucose determinations performed by enzymatic methods are usually normal.

Use in children and adolescents:

Do not use in children or adolescents younger than 15 years of age.
