UroFuraginum is a medicinal product for use in urinary tract infections.

Composition:

Active substance: furagin(Furaginum)

1 tablet contains 50 mg of furagin.

Excipients: corn starch, sucrose, anhydrous colloidal silica, stearic acid.

Dosage:

This drug should always be used exactly as described in the patient leaflet or as prescribed by your doctor or pharmacist.

Adults: the first day of treatment - 2 tablets 4 times a day; subsequent days - 2 tablets 3 times a day.

- Take the drug orally, with meals (containing protein, which increases the absorption of the drug).

- The drug is used for 7-8 days.

Action:

UroFuraginum exhibits antibacterial (bacteriostatic) activity against Gram-positive bacteria (Staphylococcus) and Gram-negative bacteria(Escherichia, Enterobacter, Proteus, Klebsiella). It exhibits antiprotozoal activity. The effect of furagin (furazidine) is stronger in an acidic environment.

Indications:

- Infection of the lower urinary tract.

Contraindications:

When not to use the drug UroFuraginum:

- If the patient is allergic (hypersensitive) to furagin, other nitrofuran derivatives or any of the other components of uroFuraginum.

- In the first trimester of pregnancy.

- During term pregnancy (from 38 weeks) and delivery, due to the risk of hemolytic anemia (anemia associated with the breakdown of red blood cells) in the newborn.

- In children and adolescents.

- If the patient has renal insufficiency and laboratory tests show a creatinine clearance of less than 60 ml/min or an elevated serum creatinine level.

- If the patient has a known polyneuropathy (disorder of the nervous system), such as in the course of diabetes.

If the patient has a deficiency of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (an enzyme involved in the metabolism of red blood cells).

Side effects:

Like any drug, this medication can cause side effects, although not everyone will experience them.

Common side effects (in 1 to 10 out of 100 patients):

- nausea, excessive passing of gas;

- headache.

Side effects occurring in no more than 1 in 100 patients:

- cyanosis, megaloblastic anemia (anemia from vitamin B12 or folic acid deficiency) or hemolytic anemia,

- dizziness, drowsiness, visual disturbances,

- hypersensitivity reactions involving the respiratory system

- Acute reactions - manifested by fever, chills, cough, chest pain, shortness of breath, exudation into the chest space,

- constipation, diarrhea, dyspeptic symptoms (e.g., postprandial fullness, bloating), abdominal pain, vomiting, salivary gland inflammation, pancreatitis, pseudomembranous enteritis;

- alopecia, exfoliative dermatitis, erythema multiforme, Stevens-Johnson syndrome (bullous erythema multiforme);

- Fever, chills, malaise, infections with furagin-resistant microorganisms;

- pruritus, urticaria, anaphylactic reactions (sudden local or systemic allergic reactions), angioedema (a disease of the skin and subcutaneous tissue involving the formation of limited swelling), rash;

- symptoms of drug-induced hepatitis, cholestatic jaundice (caused by obstruction of bile outflow), necrosis of the liver parenchyma.

Warnings and precautions:

- With long-term use of the drug, blood tests (to control the number of white blood cells) and kidney and liver function should be performed.

- Use of the drug should be consulted with a doctor or pharmacist if the patient has: renal or hepatic dysfunction, nervous system disorders, electrolyte disorders, deficiency of B vitamins, folic acid.

- In patients with diabetes, furasidine may cause nerve damage.

- Chronic reactions may occur in patients, using furasidine for more than 6 months.

- The drug contains sucrose.

- Keep out of reach of small children.

- Store at room temperature.

Use of other medications:

Tell your doctor or pharmacist about all medicines you are currently or recently taking, as well as any medicines you plan to take, including those that are dispensed without a prescription.

UroFuraginum may interact with:

- nalidixic acid,

- aminoglycosides and tetracyclines,

- atropine,

- B group vitamins.

Use of the drug with food and drink:

UroFuraginum should be taken with meals containing protein.

Do not use alcohol while taking the drug.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding:

UroFuraginum should not be used during the first three months of pregnancy (first trimester) or in women with a full-term pregnancy and during labor. Use with extreme caution during the last three months of pregnancy (3rd trimester). Furasidine may cause hemolytic anemia in the newborn.

The drug UroFuraginum should not be used during breastfeeding. Furasidine passes into breast milk and may harm a breastfed baby.

Effects on fertility:

Nitrofuran derivatives (including furaginum) may adversely affect testicular function and cause decreased sperm motility, reduce sperm secretion.

Use of the drug in children and adolescents:

Do not use the drug in children and adolescents.

Driving and operating machinery:

Some patients may experience side effects that may affect the ability to drive (dizziness, drowsiness, visual disturbances).
